Stringertheory started off this year's Friendathon with Grill Mates. In the second week, her Bygones and Proper Introductions was posted. Today, we've released two more of her fics: Anything You Can Do over on LJ, and Shooting the Breeze here on DW. But Stringertheory has a lot more completed prompts for the ficathon -- another seven, in fact! -- so the mods have decided to make today Stringertheory Day.

[personal profile] stringertheory will be posting her fics throughout the day. I don't know if she'll choose here or LJ or do a mixture of both, but keep an eye on the comm for more great fic! All her stories will be included in the week's tally entry, and of course in the master post.

When Stringertheory Day is over, the mods will be posting their own stories to end the ficathon, although we still have Ficathon Frenzy to come. We're almost at the end, folks, and it's been a fantastic ride thanks to all of you. :)

And we're live, folks! \0/

We've had a few requests for extensions of a day or two. Since we've got a three week buffer (!) before we run out of fics, the mods are allowing a week's extension time (two if you're on your second fic). If you can't finish by then, please e-mail us at sg1friendathon@gmail.com or comment below. We'll return your prompt to the pool.

Any prompts left in the pool will be available for ficathon frenzy after all the stories from the ficathon proper have gone up. We'll give you more details on that when we're running out of fic... and that's not going to be any time soon, whee!

Don't forget that the fics will be released one at a time, in the order in which they were submitted. If you've got your story locked as private on your journal, we'll be sending you an e-mail telling you when your comm entry is about to clear the queue so you can unlock it for your readers.

Now sit back and enjoy all the friendship squee! :) The first fic is already up at LJ: Grill Mates, by stringertheory. Jack, Sam. Sam is secretly an expert at barbecuing.

It's hard to believe, but we're only a week away from releasing our first story from the queue -- assuming, of course, that everyone gets their stories submitted on time, :) With ten fics already waiting in the queue and lots more being written/betaed/frantically contemplated, it's looking very exciting.

A few reminders for you:

Detailed instructions on how to submit your story can be found here.

Beta seekers/volunteers can comment here.

We'll be releasing stories from the queue at the rate of one per day, in the order in which the stories are submitted. Most stories have been submitted over at LJ, not here, but the mods will try to post links to the LJ entries each day so that DW participants don't miss out. And, of course, there will be a master post when the ficathon ends.

Two new tidbits:

If you've chosen to have your story on your own journal and submitted your entry as headers and a link (which is perfectly fine), the mods will e-mail you to let you know when your entry will clear the queue, so you'll have time to make your fic accessible by unlocking the entry.

After some discussion, the mods have decided to allow Ficathon Frenzy after all the regular stories from the ficathon have already been posted. We estimate that this won't happen until late August/early September, but at that time, the comm will be thrown open to fics of any length based on any of the unclaimed prompts. They will still have to be gen, but there will be no claiming of prompts and no minimum length requirements. So if you've thought of joining the ficathon but weren't sure you could satisfy the criteria, we hope you'll enjoy us for Ficathon Frenzy!

Today is July 21. That means that in less than two weeks, your wonderful friendathon will begin to make their appearances. Which means that those of us who haven't started completed their stories had better get to writing! Eek! Those of you who have already completed your assignments and have stories waiting in the moderation queue, congratulations!

And now a couple of housekeeping items for those who are still at work:

1. I think most of you have a left an email address for us, but for any who haven't, please check in at this screened post to bring us up to date. That way we can be in touch with final instructions or if any questions arise.

2. Are you on the hunt for a beta reader? Check in here for volunteers who can help you out. Or, you can also volunteer as a beta for others.

3. If you're running into problems and/or find that you will not be able to finish your story, please do let us know ASAP.

We are genuinely excited by the level of interest this friendathon has generated. We hope that you are having fun with your stories. It will be wonderful to have so many good stories to read in August. Thank you to everyone for your participation.

A final note regarding email: A commenter at LJ has noted that an email message from the friendathon routed into her spam folder. 1) You might check for us there, and 2) you might also add sg1friendathon [at] gmail [dot] com to your safe lists.

It's three weeks to July 31, when everyone's entries should be submitted so we can go live on August 1. How's everyone doing? We're very excited to have several stories already waiting in the queue. It looks like the [community profile] sg1friendathon is shaping up to be a real success!

For those of you (like me) who are still in the planning/writing/editing/panicking-and-running-around-in-circles stage, you're not quite ready to submit your fic... but it is time to know how to do it. :)

Amazingly, several people who signed up are already in the beta stage -- looking for someone to read their story and make suggestions/corrections as needed. If you're looking for a beta reader, or want to offer your services as a beta reader, comment at this link to advertise! The more specific you are, the better your chance of getting a good match. So if you can only beta S9-10 or you need someone who knows all the canon regarding Janet Frasier, be sure to make that clear. It's also a good idea to offer a method of contact: e-mail (if you don't mind putting it out there), private message, whatever works for you!

Prompts week is officially over, but that doesn't mean you can't sign up if you still want to! It does mean that if you've finished your story already (like a certain awesome person who has not only finished her fic, but actually submitted it, whee!), you're entitled to claim a second prompt. The prompts post will actually remain open until the day before we go live, so if you're still interested, go browse through the prompts and choose one that suits your fancy.

So, a quick reminder: the remainder of June and the month of July are writing time. You can submit your finished story to the comm as soon as you've finished; it'll go in the queue until August 1st, when we'll begin posting fic. Don't forget that we'll be releasing stories in the order they're submitted, so the earlier you post to the comm, the quicker your story will be read!

Later this month, we'll e-mail you with instructions on how to submit your entry. If you need that information earlier, feel free to e-mail us at sg1friendathon@gmail.com.

And speaking of e-mail... Most of our participants have already posted their e-mails to this screened post -- or e-mailed us directly, which is also fine -- but many of you who signed up have not yet given us your e-mail addresses. We MUST be able to contact you, so please don't forget to do this as soon as possible.

Welcome to the 2011 SG-1 Friendathon!

Prompts may be submitted through June 1st. Everyone may submit prompts, even if they don't intend to take place in the ficathon. Multiple prompts are not only allowed, but encouraged. Please spread the word - we want as many and as varied prompts as possible!

Prompts should include, at a mimimum, the names of at least two characters. In addition, offer a frame for the prompt: a word, an episode, a quote, a line of dialogue, a few lines of lyrics, and so on. No icons/images, please! You may be as vague or specific as you like, but remember that you have no control over who (if anyone) will choose your prompt or how that person will choose to interpret it.

You may submit prompts with three or more characters if you wish.

Don't forget that [community profile] sg1friendathon is a gen ficathon, so no pairings are allowed in the prompts. Peripheral canon pairings will be permitted in stories, but they may not be included in the prompt.

You may not request character bashing of any kind. Writers may not bash characters, either. If you don't like Sam or Daniel or Vala or Landry, then don't choose a prompt that features that character, and don't include him or her in your fic.

Prompt examples )

[community profile] sg1friendathon prompts belong in the SG-1 canon, so please do not submit prompts that take place within the context of SGA or SGU. SGA characters within the context of SG-1 canon - Rodney McKay in 48 Hours or Redemption , Elizabeth Weir in Lost City/New Order, or anyone from SGA in Pegasus Project - may be included in a friendship prompt with someone from the SG-1 universe. If you have any questions, leave a comment here to ask.

Prompts may be submitted through June 1st, so... GO!
