Technical details and instructions for submitting your fic

The claims period has officially ended. It's writing time now! We've got six weeks until everyone's entries should be submitted so we can go live on October 1st.

The prompts entry is still open; if you haven't yet made a claim or you want to take a second one after finishing your first fic, you're more than welcome to do so! Just remember that you're committing yourself to finish it by October 1st.

Authors, you should all have received an e-mail confirming your address. If you have not received such an e-mail, please check your spam folder. If it's not there either, you may have forgotten to give us your address in the first place! Comment at this screened post and leave us your e-mail, or e-mail us at sg1friendathon [at] gmail [dot] com.

Most of us haven't gone beyond vague ideas as yet (hurray for those of you who are already writing!), but here's a detailed explanation of how to submit your fic when the time comes.

First of all, let's review the criteria:

Your story must be gen. Peripheral canon relationships are permitted, but the emphasis of the fic must be the friendship between two (or more) characters from SG-1.

Your story must be at least 1,000 words.

Your story should be spell-checked and beta'd.

Posting your fic:

You must be a member of [community profile] sg1friendathon to have posting access! It's not enough to be watching the community.

Once you've joined, you have moderated posting access. That means that your post will remain in the queue until the mods clear your entry. Feel free to post as soon as you're ready - your story will wait patiently until October 1st, and we'll unveil the fics one day at a time in the order in which they were submitted. With over 30 prompts claimed, we're looking at an entire month of gen fic to enjoy!

How do you submit your entry? You have two choices: Posting directly to the comm and Posting on your own journal/archive.

Posting directly to the comm:

The subject line of your entry should include both the title of your fic and your name, like this:

Title, by Author

Next, please copy and paste the following into the entry in HTML mode, not Rich Text mode:
<b>Title:</b> Title of your story
<b>Author:</b> your name (including LJ nick)
<b>Word count:</b> number of words in your story
<b>Rating/Warning:</b> whatever ratings system you prefer; include warnings as you see fit (any pairings must be listed)
<b>Spoilers:</b> specify episodes related to your fic (a two-line reference to an ep does not require a spoiler warning)
<b>Prompt:</b> cut-and-paste your claimed prompt here

<lj-cut text="Title of story">

actual story text

</lj-cut>
Don't worry about tags - the mods will take care of that.

Posting on your own journal/archive:

You must keep your entry locked as private until all the stories have been submitted and posted! (This includes stories posted at AO3 or some other archive.) When we're ready to clear your story, we'll e-mail you to let you know that you can unlock your own entry by changing it from "Private" to "Public." Once you change the privacy setting on your post, everyone will be able to see it and read it.

You're welcome to use whatever format you like on your own journal, but you must also submit a post to the comm itself.

The subject line of your entry to the comm should include both the Title of your fic and your name, like this:

Title, by Author

Next, please copy and paste the following into the entry:
<b>Title:</b> Title of your story
<b>Author:</b> your name (including LJ nick)
<b>Word count:</b> number of words in your story
<b>Rating/Warning:</b> whatever ratings system you prefer; include warnings as you see fit (any pairings must be listed)
<b>Spoilers:</b> specify episodes related to your fic (a two-line reference to an ep does not require a spoiler warning)
<b>Prompt:</b> cut-and-paste your claimed prompt here

Whether you choose to post your story to the comm or link to it there, the mods will go over your post to ensure that it follows the proper format.

IMPORTANT! Two potential complications:

If you are going with option #2 and you post your stories on a comm rather than a journal, please e-mail the mods at sg1friendathon@gmail.com to discuss the best way to handle it.

If you are so enthused about SG-1 friendship that you are planning multiple submissions, we'll need to discuss that too. Please e-mail us so we can find the best solution.

Questions? Comments? Flailing? Running around in circles? Feel free to leave it all here!
