Hah, yes! looking at old canon makes it so much more interesting. I re-watched the original movie recently, and it colors everything so differently. What is O'Neil(l) thinking when he meets the Jaffa? What experience is he bringing to the encounter? If you don't think about what happened on Abydos in the movieverse, then you miss shadings (or put shadings in, if it wasn't the writers being that smart).
